Weekly Best in Movie Marketing: ‘Weapons’ and ‘Lilo & Stitch’

Hello! Welcome to the ninth blog post in my series, ‘Weekly Best in Movie Marketing. In this series, I highlight my favourite film marketing initiatives from the week in my book. I also explain why they stand out to me.

In this article, I’ll discuss the online promotion for the upcoming American Horror mystery film, ‘Weapons‘ and the offline promotion for the upcoming American science-fiction comedy drama, ‘Lilo & Stitch‘.

Interesting lead-up to the trailer of the film, ‘Weapons‘:

The trailer of the Zach Cregger‘s upcoming directorial, ‘Weapons‘ released on 29 April, 2025. But that’s not the only thing, which impressed me. In fact, I am completely amazed by the interesting set of events that have been happening over the past three weeks before the launch of the movie’s trailer.

On 14 April, 2025, ‘Warner Bros.‘, the movie’s distributor launched the website maybrookmissing.net. The website’s design resembles the Web 1.0 design and features mock news that details the disappearance of 17 children from the town of Maybrook. It also hints at a connection to the Zach Cregger‘s previous directorial venture, ‘Barbarian‘. Though this kind of websites, meant for promoting movies, have been launched previously for various films, I suppose this initiative for ‘Weapons‘ is the first of its kind to tease about a universe connection! This is where I felt impressed in the first place.

In parallel, ‘New Line Cinema‘ – the movie’s producer – and ‘Warner Bros.‘, shared the below photos on social media.

As a follow-up, ‘New Line Cinema‘ and ‘Warner Bros.‘ posted the below CCTV footage-kind of videos on social media the next day, i.e. 15 April, 2025.

The above three videos were initially not a part of the website maybrookmissing.net. I now find them added to the website. Maybe the videos would have been uploaded to the website in parallel to, or after rolling out them to the social platforms.

Then the teaser unveiled on 21 April, 2025. Check it out below…

And the trailer released this week, i.e. on 29 April, 2025. Check it out below…

So far, every content has been mildly elaborating the previous content. I’ve been loving the way in which things are unfolding so far despite the movie’s marketing being heavily centered around the hook of children disappearing during the wee hours! Hope there’s more in the movie to interest further!

Bringing to life ‘Stitch‘, one of the two little characters of the movie, ‘Lilo & Stitch‘:

Lilo & Stitch‘ is the upcoming live-action animated remake of Disney‘s 2002 animated film of the same name. To promote the movie, the character ‘Stitch‘ has been brought to life. So far, a couple of videos have surfaced featuring a life-size replica of the character at the theatre venue surprising moviegoers by bursting out of a popcorn bucket and scanning people’s tickets.
